Recognizing Anxiety and Depression

  • Camas Public Library - Meeting Room A 625 NE 4th Ave Camas, WA 98607 (map)

In this session Jamie Califf, Licensed Mental Health Counselor at Charis Counseling, will explore the symptoms and various manifestations of anxiety and depression in children, teens and young adults. Anxiety disorders affect 1 in 8 children. Depression and bipolar disorders affect 14% of teens. And nearly 30% of adolescents will meet criteria for an anxiety disorder by the age of 18.

Recent statistics reveal a dramatic increase in the experience of anxiety and depressive symptoms amongst our youth in the past 10 years. The academic, social and environmental landscape has changed, and many are asking how we can best respond. We'll seek to answer questions such as: How does it start? What should I be watching for? When should I be concerned? How do I talk to my child about what he/she is experiencing? What tools and resources are available to help?
